Top Ten Summer Reading Recommendations

Summer in Vermont brings on a different set of activities, a different pace of life, and an opportunity for renewal – at least for me. Last week I had a chance to connect with nature in a way I hadn’t in a long time. I finally got out on my mountain bike and did some exploring and tried to remember all the great reading recommendation from the past year. There were too many to remember, much less to read in one summer. Next time I’ll write them down! Summer also offers up the opportunity to have a little more choice in what I read. That night I did some searching and finalist my summer reading list. My goal is 10 books by the end of August. So here goes…

Personal Reading:

  1. Boys in the Boat by Daniel James Brown (Thanks Rachel for the recommendation!)Boys in the Boat
  2. The Wright Brothers by David McCullough The Wright Brothers
  3. Dad is Fat by Jim Gaffigandad is fat
  4. Re-ReadThe White Spider by Heninrich HarrerThe white spider
  5. I Am Malala: The Girl Who Stood Up for Education and Was Shot by the Taliban by Malala Yousafzai 17851885

I tend to stick to non-fiction, if you can’t tell

    Professional Reading:

  1. Drive: The Surprising Truth About What Motivates Us by Daniel PinkDrive
  2. Teaching That Changes Lives: 12 Mindset Tools for Igniting the Love of Learning (BK Life) by Marilee Adams Teaching that changes lives
  3. Freedom to Fail: How do I foster risk-taking and innovation in my classroom? (ASCD Arias) By Andrew Miller Freedom to fail
  4. Rethinking Education in the Age of Technology: The Digital Revolution and Schooling in America by Allen Collinsrethinking Education
  5. 21st Century Skills: Rethinking How Students Learn (Leading Edge) By James Bellanca 21 century

The bigger problem is when you start searching for one book your list grows faster then you can read. I guess I will be busy. Happy Reading!!
