Relevant, real world learning experiences are highly engaging for young adolescents.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The learning and work feels meaningful, and youth feel energized with their emerging sense of agency: <\/span><i><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">I can make a difference in my community. Here and now. This matters.<\/span><\/i><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Seriously, there\u2019s no way we can capture them all here in this toolkit, and it\u2019s likely that almost any post makes at least some reference to students engaging with the larger community.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">There is a lot of overlap between community-engaged learning and <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/tiie.w3.uvm.edu\/blog\/outdoor-and-place-based-learning-toolkit\/\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">place-based learning, outdoor learning<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/tiie.w3.uvm.edu\/blog\/project-based-learning-2\/#.Y_0CBuxKjlw\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">project-based learning<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/tiie.w3.uvm.edu\/blog\/service-learning\/#.Y_0Ab-zMLlw\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">service learning<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/tiie.w3.uvm.edu\/blog\/negotiated-curriculum\/#.Y_0CXexKjlw\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">negotiated curriculum<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, and even <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/tiie.w3.uvm.edu\/blog\/education-for-sustainability\/#.Y_0CkuxKjlw\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">education for sustainability<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">But whatever you call it, when it has the essential ingredients of real world, student driven, making a difference and, crucially, engaging with members and organizations in the local community.
