And almost as a sidenote, those trays start around $200 for a 10-slot box with some cords and \u00a0a lid. The solution? DIY!<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>Based on the success of our <a title=\"Build your own iPad charging cart out of office supplies\" href=\"https:\/\/tiie.w3.uvm.edu\/blog\/build-your-own-ipad-charging-cart-out-of-office-supplies\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">10-iPad charging cart<\/a>, we decided to make two smaller charging trays, so that folks who wanted to check out only 5 at a time had a convenient and ergonomically successful way to cart their loot around. Oh, and we didn&#8217;t want to spend more than $25 to do it.<\/p>\n<p>Behold!<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alwaysThinglink\" style=\"max-width: 100%;\" src=\"\/\/cdn.thinglink.me\/api\/image\/537615321385664512\/1024\/10\/scaletowidth#tl-537615321385664512;1043138249\" alt=\"\" \/><\/p>\n<h2>What We Used:<\/h2>\n<ul>\n<li>An 11L Really Useful Box (that&#8217;s an actual brand name and also truth for days) from Staples, with snap-on lid ($11.99)<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B00006B8K2\/ref=oh_details_o03_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&amp;psc=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">A Fellows surge protector<\/a> ($21.99)<\/li>\n<li>Rubber bands for cord management<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>To make a hole in the side of the Really Useful box we used a hole saw:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/instagram.com\/p\/pZ6-dvP5Lc\/embed\/\" width=\"306\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>so that the surge protector&#8217;s cord can be plugged into the wall and charging while the lid&#8217;s on:<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/instagram.com\/p\/pgaj4BP5Bb\/embed\/\" width=\"306\" height=\"355\" frameborder=\"0\" scrolling=\"no\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Now, at this point I&#8217;m going to confess something important: this setup may not work for you. It works for us because the cases stacked inside this particular Really Useful Box are a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Fintie-iPad-Retina-Display-Kiddie\/dp\/B00C1B8QJ8\/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1404408997&amp;sr=8-1&amp;keywords=fintie+mini+casebot\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Fintie Mini<\/a>, a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Trident-AMS-NEW-IPAD-BK-Kraken-Case-iPad\/dp\/B007OWITFK\/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&amp;qid=1404408890&amp;sr=8-2&amp;keywords=kraken+trident+iPad+2\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Triton Kraken<\/a>, a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B0089PWKH4\/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&amp;psc=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">CellularVila Combo Case<\/a>, a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B005262VR2\/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&amp;psc=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Casemate Pop!<\/a> (don&#8217;t ask), and an <a href=\"http:\/\/www.amazon.com\/gp\/product\/B004TB7HR0\/ref=oh_details_o04_s00_i01?ie=UTF8&amp;psc=1\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Amzer Silicone Jelly case<\/a>.\u00a0This box worked for us, mainly because the Fellows surge protector lets you plug many chargers in at odd angle, making it the number one tool for the job and justifying us going over our budget (whoops).<\/p>\n<p>But I don&#8217;t know which cases you have on your iPads. I just know that it took me less than a half hour to rig these puppies up and they&#8217;re very, very useful. So if I can do it, you can totally do it too, and save yourself hundreds of dollars.\u00a0The key here, as with so much of the best ideas coming out of schools these days, is to roll your sleeves up and make it yourselves.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>*So many cases. Like, a year&#8217;s worth of different cases. Most of them** performed decently in terms of protection, but fell down on the function side, until we found our One True Case.
