Now I do all of those things, and more, with my phone. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; font-size: 15px; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; color: #000000; vertical-align: baseline; background-color: transparent;\">When I went for a run yesterday, I strapped on an armband that carries my phone, my sport watch to track my heart rate, and on an 85-degree day run through the woods I couldn\u2019t overlook my handheld water bottle. \u00a0Was it ten years ago? \u00a0Why was I carrying multiple pieces of technology? \u00a0Why even bring technology on a run \u2013 this is my one opportunity during the day to unplug \u2013 was I missing the point? \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; font-size: 15px; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; color: #000000; vertical-align: baseline; background-color: transparent;\">Wearable technology certainly dominates the \u201cnext big thing\u201d in tech conversation (although I\u2019m still a little confused why \u2013 I\u2019m pretty sure my Casio Databank CA53W-1 was wearable technology). \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/tiie.w3.uvm.edu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/wearables.jpeg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-medium wp-image-1466\" src=\"https:\/\/tiie.w3.uvm.edu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/wearables-154x300.jpeg\" alt=\"The adoption of wearable tech: how realistic is it really?\" width=\"154\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tiie.w3.uvm.edu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/wearables-154x300.jpeg 154w, https:\/\/tiie.w3.uvm.edu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/wearables-527x1024.jpeg 527w, https:\/\/tiie.w3.uvm.edu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/wearables-619x1200.jpeg 619w, https:\/\/tiie.w3.uvm.edu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/07\/wearables.jpeg 750w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 154px) 100vw, 154px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; font-size: 15px; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; color: #000000; vertical-align: baseline; background-color: transparent;\">According to this <\/span><a style=\"color: #1155cc; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; text-decoration: none; background-color: #ffffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/web.archive.org\/web\/20141102142726\/http:\/\/www.quadratek.net:80\/blog\/2014\/7\/18\/71v0mfqce4ydbbyebvys20omjerea7\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-size: 15px; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; text-decoration: underline; vertical-align: baseline; background-color: transparent;\">Infographic<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; font-size: 15px; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; color: #000000; vertical-align: baseline; background-color: transparent;\">, I am part of a trend, and I fall into the \u201cmost people\u201d category. At 34 years old I own a mobile device and wear a watch for recording some health benefit stats. And at first glance of the reported survey results, it appears as though this trend is only going to increase. I love Infographics; they can tell the story you want to tell. \u00a0But the skeptical side of me always says look deeper. \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; font-size: 15px; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; color: #000000; vertical-align: baseline; background-color: transparent;\">From the original articles, I read <\/span><a style=\"color: #1155cc; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; text-decoration: none; background-color: #ffffff;\" href=\"https:\/\/www.eetimes.com\/wearable-survey-paints-mixed-outlook\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-size: 15px; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; text-decoration: underline; vertical-align: baseline; background-color: transparent;\">here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; font-size: 15px; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; color: #000000; vertical-align: baseline; background-color: transparent;\"> that \u201cmore than half of adults in a recent survey said they don&#8217;t know what wearable technology is\u201d; and <\/span><a style=\"color: #1155cc; font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 13px; font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; text-decoration: none; background-color: #ffffff;\" href=\"http:\/\/www.nielsen.com\/us\/en\/insights\/news\/2014\/tech-styles-are-consumers-really-interested-in-wearing-tech-on-their-sleeves.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\"><span style=\"font-size: 15px; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; text-decoration: underline; vertical-align: baseline; background-color: transparent;\">here<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; font-size: 15px; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; color: #000000; vertical-align: baseline; background-color: transparent;\">, \u201cthe sample includes 2,313 respondents interested in connected-wearable technology.\u201d \u00a0So when the Infographic shows 48% of people surveyed said they would purchase wearable technology, I think it is important to remember that the other half doesn\u2019t know what wearable technology is. And when looking at what is most popular, or what people wish wearables were, it is important to recognize that those people are already interested in wearable technology. Again, I like infographics, I like this one \u2013 but I\u2019m part of the trend that is being reported, and for that half of adults that don\u2019t know what a wearable is, I think it is important to consider their opinions, especially if wearable technology is the \u201cnext big thing.\u201d \u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; font-size: 15px; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; color: #000000; vertical-align: baseline; background-color: transparent;\">Back to my run. <\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-style: normal; font-variant: normal; font-weight: normal; letter-spacing: normal; line-height: normal; text-align: start; text-indent: 0px; font-size: 15px; font-family: 'Times New Roman'; color: #000000; vertical-align: baseline; background-color: transparent;\">I want a small wristband that can track my heart rate, map my run, and take a phone call from my daughter\u2019s daycare (which is why I even carry my phone in the first place).
