{"id":2216,"date":"2014-10-18T10:53:50","date_gmt":"2014-10-18T14:53:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tiie.w3.uvm.edu\/blog\/?p=2216"},"modified":"2018-09-19T12:47:09","modified_gmt":"2018-09-19T16:47:09","slug":"make-maglev-cars-with-google-sketchup","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tiie.w3.uvm.edu\/blog\/make-maglev-cars-with-google-sketchup\/","title":{"rendered":"Make maglev cars with Google SketchUp"},"content":{"rendered":"<h3><\/h3>\n<h1>Concept to reality with Edmunds Middle School makerspace<\/h1>\n<p>Hear from a group of 6th grade engineers who got to use their school&#8217;s nascent makerspace to design their own magnetic-levitation (mag-lev) cars in <a href=\"http:\/\/sketchup.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Google SketchUp<\/a>, and then actually make them.<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/4_suKgFz8jI\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>The students spoke to us this past winter as part of <a title=\"Digital Learning Day at Edmunds Middle School\" href=\"https:\/\/tiie.w3.uvm.edu\/blog\/digital-learning-day-at-edmunds-middle-school\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Edmunds Middle School&#8217;s Digital Learning Day<\/a> open house, where the community was invited to come in and visit classrooms and speak with students about the role of technology at their school.<\/p>\n<p>These students took part in the afternoon &#8220;speed-geeking&#8221; session, during which groups of students explained their projects to visitors in six-minute sessions. At the end of each six-minute block, visitors would rotate through to the next student group.
