In this new toolkit, we have collected many of our favorite posts about equity, including analyses and syntheses about equity in general, how to support equity in professional learning and in classrooms, and examples of student projects with equity at the center. <a href=\"https:\/\/tiie.w3.uvm.edu\/blog\/equity-toolkit\/#.ZBxnJexKjlw\">Find the toolkit&#8217;s permanent location here.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Equity is the basis of the middle school movement that we hold dear, which originated as a challenge to the status quo of junior high schools. As progressive educators, we promote shifts in education to bring more equitable outcomes, more humane learning spaces, and expanded opportunities for students to analyze and act to bring greater justice to our society.<\/p>\n<p>We promote equity through practices represented in our toolkits such as positive\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tiie.w3.uvm.edu\/blog\/community-culture-toolkit\/#.ZAd3vuzMLt0\">Community and Culture<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tiie.w3.uvm.edu\/blog\/student-identity\/#.ZAeAjOzMLt0\">Identity<\/a>\u00a0work for inclusiveness and belonging;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tiie.w3.uvm.edu\/blog\/proficiency-based-education\/#.ZAd3UuzMLt0\">Proficiency-Based Education<\/a>\u00a0to focus on growth and cross-curricular skills like the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tiie.w3.uvm.edu\/blog\/essential-skills-dispositions-toolkit\/#.ZAd4CezMLt0\">Essential Skills and Dispositions<\/a>;\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tiie.w3.uvm.edu\/blog\/plps-to-know-students-well-personal-learning-plans-toolkit-2\/#.ZAd3duzMLt0\">Personalized Learning Plans<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tiie.w3.uvm.edu\/blog\/student-led-conferences-3\/#.ZAd3iOzMLt0\">Student Led Conferences<\/a>\u00a0that enhance student ownership; and engaging pedagogies like\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tiie.w3.uvm.edu\/blog\/project-based-learning-2\/#.ZAd3HezMLt0\">Project Based Learning<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/tiie.w3.uvm.edu\/blog\/service-learning\/#.ZBnBFezMLt0\">Service Learning<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>And an important shift in the middle school movement over the last decade is the recognition that equity needs to be explicitly centered in order to be effectively pursued. While it may be a driver behind the work, and there are important practices that promote it, equity itself demands to be named, analyzed, researched, learned, taught, and applied.
