With Schoology, McKnight is able to describe how she&#8217;s giving her students choices of assignments and learning targets, and use native platform tools to track their proficiency as each unit progresses.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" src=\"\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/pvGHb6jse-s\" width=\"420\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>Along with the Tarrant Institute&#8217;s own <a title=\"Susan Hennessey, Professional Development Coordinator\" href=\"https:\/\/tiie.w3.uvm.edu\/blog\/susan-hennessey\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Susan Hennessey<\/a>, McKnight presented on Harwood&#8217;s work with differentiating instruction materials for students\u00a0<a title=\"Innovative learning shared at Nashville conference\" href=\"https:\/\/tiie.w3.uvm.edu\/blog\/vermonts-innovative-learning-shared-at-nashville-conference\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">at the national conference of American Middle Level Educators this past November in Nashville<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>Harwood&#8217;s 9th grade is currently 1:1 with iPads, and as part of Vermont&#8217;s move towards personalized learning plans, the school is adopting proficiency-based graduation requirements. This movement towards centering students as the driving agents of their own careers as learners gives McKnight&#8217;s work with the Schoology system extra impact. One of the\u00a0points that\u00a0Hennessey and Knight\u00a0made at AMLE was that students reported feeling that they had more choices within the Schoology &#8220;A La Carte&#8221; system, and that in turn allowed them to choose a materials-presentation method that\u00a0was a better fit for their learning preferences.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/tiie.w3.uvm.edu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/student_perceptions.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"aligncenter size-medium wp-image-3738\" src=\"https:\/\/tiie.w3.uvm.edu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/student_perceptions-300x165.jpg\" alt=\"Using Schoology for differentiated learning\" width=\"300\" height=\"165\" srcset=\"https:\/\/tiie.w3.uvm.edu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/student_perceptions-300x165.jpg 300w, https:\/\/tiie.w3.uvm.edu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/student_perceptions-619x340.jpg 619w, https:\/\/tiie.w3.uvm.edu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/12\/student_perceptions.jpg 819w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>There are a number of LMS platforms out on the market today, and in fact, we work with\u00a0individuals, schools and districts using <a href=\"http:\/\/badgeos.org\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">BadgeOS<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.canvaslms.com\/try-canvas?lead_source_description=Search_Paid,Google&amp;keyword=canvas%20learning%20system&amp;network=g&amp;creative=49445785552&amp;matchtype=p&amp;device=c&amp;model=&amp;creative=49445785552&amp;placement=&amp;position=1t2&amp;gclid=CjwKEAiAzIWkBRDO5LDEn8G1nAUSJADnHq_5E0HT1Tojs0ZD8atB-RyDmLn5SClBOlr7pBfzpyN_jhoCXELw_wcB\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Canvas<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/edmodo.com\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Edmodo<\/a>, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.haikulearning.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Haiku<\/a>.
