{"id":7673,"date":"2015-11-13T11:52:05","date_gmt":"2015-11-13T15:52:05","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tiie.w3.uvm.edu\/blog\/?p=7673"},"modified":"2024-08-20T08:25:22","modified_gmt":"2024-08-20T12:25:22","slug":"augmented-reality-and-student-identity","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tiie.w3.uvm.edu\/blog\/augmented-reality-and-student-identity\/","title":{"rendered":"Augmented reality and student identity"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>Students explore the geography of self(ies)<\/h1>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/lumsvt.wix.com\/self\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft wp-image-7674 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/tiie.w3.uvm.edu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/11\/geosmall.jpg\" alt=\"augmented reality and student identity\" width=\"200\" height=\"156\" \/><\/a>An innovative way for students to explore who they are happens in Lori Lisai&#8217;s classroom at Lamoille Union Middle School where she works with them to craft an interactive biography through her <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/lamoillems.wix.com\/self\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Geography of Self<\/a><\/strong> project.<\/p>\n<p>A\u00a0bulletin board houses the student self portraits; 8th graders include their 7th grade portraits side-by-side: a visual representation of growth-over-time.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<h2>Thinking more deeply about selfies<\/h2>\n<p>Lisai\u00a0values good design so she takes time teaching students how to take self-portraits and build frames with an eye to design elements. Scan the code and you will be taken to a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thinglink.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Thinglink<\/a> where the student portrait is embellished with links to multi-media biographies of self.<\/p>\n<p>The student example at right, for instance, brings the viewer to a Haiku Deck presentation of images with text overlays of things this student values.<\/p>\n<p>Other students included iMovies to tell\u00a0their story of self.<\/p>\n<p>Below\u00a0is a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.thinglink.com\/scene\/565892794158153730\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Thinglink <\/a>example from Isabelle Sullivan from Lamoille Union School in Vermont.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"alwaysThinglink\" style=\"max-width: 100%;\" src=\"\/\/cdn.thinglink.me\/api\/image\/565892794158153730\/1024\/10\/scaletowidth#tl-565892794158153730;1043138249'\" alt=\"\" \/><script src=\"\/\/cdn.thinglink.me\/jse\/embed.js\" async=\"\" charset=\"utf-8\"><\/script><\/p>\n<h2>But it doesn&#8217;t have to be just for students<\/h2>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<h3>Educators are modeling\u00a0augmented reality and identity exploration<\/h3>\n<p>John Craig, the principal of Hazen Union Middle School and a few of his teachers were inspired by Thinglink as well and are experimenting with students creating Thinglinks, much like Lori did, to add to their Personal Learning Plans (PLPs).
