{"id":8174,"date":"2016-01-26T13:38:55","date_gmt":"2016-01-26T17:38:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/tiie.w3.uvm.edu\/blog\/?p=8174"},"modified":"2016-01-26T14:52:31","modified_gmt":"2016-01-26T18:52:31","slug":"self-analysis-and-teaming","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tiie.w3.uvm.edu\/blog\/self-analysis-and-teaming\/","title":{"rendered":"Self-analysis and teaming"},"content":{"rendered":"<h1>To know your team, start by knowing yourself<\/h1>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-8184\" src=\"https:\/\/tiie.w3.uvm.edu\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/01\/teaming.jpg\" alt=\"self-analysis and teaming\" width=\"150\" height=\"150\" \/>A few years ago I had the opportunity to participate in the <a href=\"http:\/\/snellingcenter.org\/leadership\/vermont-school-leadership-project\/\">Vermont School Leadership Project <\/a>\u00a0(VSLP)\u00a0through the\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/snellingcenter.org\/\" target=\"_blank\">Snelling Center for Government<\/a>, where I was pushed to truly examine who I was as an educator and what preferences I have in terms of decision-making.<\/p>\n<p>When we overlay the Teaming lens on this activity we begin to understand how we interact and react with our teaching teams, leadership teams, \u00a0whole faculty, and even in our home lives.<\/p>\n<p><!--more--><\/p>\n<p>I would encourage you and your team(s) to go through this process and see what you learn about yourself and each other. It may explain a lot!<\/p>\n<h2>What&#8217;s your personality type?<\/h2>\n<p>The tool that we used was the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.truity.com\/test\/type-finder-research-edition\" target=\"_blank\">Myers-Briggs Type Indicator<\/a> (MBTI), which you can take online.\u00a0Once you receive your preferences it is important to spend a little time understanding them. What&#8217;s even more fun is you can find your personality type\u00a0as seen through some pop culture lenses:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.graspingforobjectivity.com\/2013\/11\/downton-abbey-mbti-chart.html\">Which Downton Abbey personality are you?<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.geekinheels.com\/2013\/10\/23\/star-wars-mbti-chart.html\">Which Star Wars character are you?<\/a><\/li>\n<li><a href=\"http:\/\/www.graspingforobjectivity.com\/2013\/12\/big-bang-theory-mbti-chart.html\">Which Big Bang character are you?<\/a><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h3>Suggested activity:<\/h3>\n<p>Have your colleagues take the test and put all the names on the chart above. Take a few minutes to understand the the results. Where are you similar? Where do you differ? Knowing the preferences of your teammates may help bring your team to a higher functioning level. It definitely did for me.<\/p>\n<h2>The Johari Window<\/h2>\n<p>Once I spent some time with this, I wanted to know how to grow and push myself to become better.
